MovieMaker magazine named Savannah the number-one location in their annual ranking of “Best Small Places and Towns to Live and Work as a Moviemaker.” In 2015, Savannah welcomed 90 professional movie projects such as Adam Sandler’s The Do Over, Marc Webb’s Gifted and three Sundance 2016 features.
Not only did the $6 billion film industry in Georgia produce more than 250 films and television shows in 2015, these sets were the location of hundreds of behind-the-scene jobs. As the third largest production center in the nation, Georgia is home to a workforce with more than 100,000 people involved in this growing part of the economy.
Industry growth over the next three to five years is projected to generate 3,000 to 5,000 new jobs in Georgia, most of which are on the set. Average earnings for jobs in the entertainment industry nationally are $84,000 a year.
Designed to prepare Georgians for on-set careers, the program can be completed in two semesters. Earning this technical certificate of credit signals those hiring for the film industry that graduates have received the educational and hands-on training needed to be successful. In addition to the basic level of on-set film production skills and knowledge of organizational structure, students will gain experience with professional equipment and on-set procedures.
