English as a Second Language (ESL)

The Adult Education English classes are free. There is no charge. 

Students who wish to attend in-person night classes at the Army Education Center in Hinesville should email Kim Tate at ktate@savannahtech.edu. 

Our summer and fall registration appointments are full at this time. Our next registration appointments will be in September for classes that begin on October 2, 2023.

Before requesting a registration appointment, please consider:

  1. Are you eligible for our English classes?  

Students must be living or working in the Savannah area and must be present for registration.  

Students must provide an unexpired photo identification as follows: 

US Citizens–driver’s license, state ID, US passport, or military ID 

Permanent Residents–green card 

Nonimmigrant Aliens–employment authorization card, US visa (NOT B1/B2 or F1 unless with a USCIS form showing an application for change of status or asylum pending), or a document issued by the US government with a photograph & A-number 

Photos on phones are not accepted. You must provide the actual document or identification. 

Note that a driver’s license or state ID is only sufficient for US citizens. If you are a permanent resident, bring your green card. If you are a nonimmigrant alien, bring your documents that show your status here, such as your work permit or your passport with a US visa. 

Students must be 16 years and older. Students aged 16-17 years must have a parent or guardian present at registration and bring a letter of non-enrollment from public school.
     2. Are you ready to commit to our English classes? 

Our classes meet Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Morning classes meet 9:00-12:00 in general, but specific times depend on the class assignment. Night classes meet 6:30-8:30 in general, but specific times depend on the class assignment

Classes meet online and in person at 5717 White Bluff Road or at the Army Education Center in Hinesville.  

Students must commit to taking a placement test, attending class for 60 hours (2-3 months), and taking a test to demonstrate progress after 60 hours of attendance. Students must sign a contract that they will attend class for 60 hours. 

If you do not have the required documents or if you cannot commit to attending class 4 days per week, please consider studying English at one of Savannah’s local churches, language schools, or online resources.
