Introduction to Jockey Truck Operator Training

Start your new career as a Jockey Truck Driver!

A jockey truck is used to move semi trailers around a cargo yard or to different locations within a warehouse facility(Wikipedia). The jockey truck operator training will provide training on control systems, vehicle inspection, basic control, backing, visibility, communication, and space management as well as offer hands-on practice on a  jockey truck.

A jockey truck, or yard truck, is a small semi-tractor used to move mostly container chassis within a cargo yard, warehouse facility or intermodal facility – much like a switcher locomotive is used to position rail cars. (See full article here about our inaugural Jockey Truck class!)

Payment Options: We accept all credit/debit cards and money orders only. Credit/debit card payments can be accepted over the  phone by calling 912-443-3012. Money orders must be delivered to the Crossroads Campus.

***Special Accommodations: Students requiring special services to take the course such as interpreters, recorded materials, etc, you must register and pay for your course at least one month or more before the scheduled start of class. At the time of registration, please inform the Continuing Education Department of your need for special services by submitting documentation from your doctor.

Students who successfully complete the course, will be able to earn a certificate of completion issued by the Professional Continuing Education Department of Savannah Technical College.

Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Mandatory Attendance
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing.
  • Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
  • Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking.
  • Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching.
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull medium weights, up to 50 pounds
  • Requires exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust, fumes and gases.

Jockey Truck sessions are not available at this time.
