Course Overview

This training course is designed to ensure you have the knowledge necessary for the safe operation of a powered industrial truck. You will be provided the opportunity to operate a forklift as well as complete a small obstacle course. A stand-up powered forklift, in which loads are carried with forks, will be used during the training course.

This course is currently offered in a hybrid format. This means that class takes place both online and in-person. The lecture training takes place live, online on a platform called Blackboard. The forklift training is scheduled by appointment and takes place one-on-one and in-person at the Savannah Tech Main Campus.

Students must attend the online course and pass the related assessment before they can move forward for the hands-on training.

Students who successfully complete the course receive a certificate of completion.

Course Requirements

  • Must be 16 years or older.
  • Must pay course registration fee by listed deadline. (Payment is not accepted at the door)
  • Be able to see and hear an industrial vehicle in a setting where the forklift will be operated.
  • Be able to participate in both the online lecture and hands – on training class.  The lecture will conclude with a written test and a hands-on demonstration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I be certified to operate a forklift after I finish the course?

No, this course is not designed to certify you to operate a forklift. It is to ensure that you have the knowledge necessary for the safe operation of a powered industrial truck.

What will I received at the end of the course?

If you successfully complete both the written test and the hands-on portion, you will receive a certificate of course completion for attending our Forklift Operator Safety Training Course.

What will be covered in this class?

This training course is designed to ensure you have the knowledge necessary for the safe operation of a powered industrial truck. It is not designed to increase your proficiency as an operator. You will be provided the opportunity to operate a forklift as well as complete a small obstacle course.

What kind of forklift will used?

A stand-up powered forklift, in which loads are carried with forks, will be used during the training course. We do not provide safety training on forklifts with clamps. However, if you are a company with a custom training request for your employees, we would be glad to speak with you further to discuss and encourage you to contact us at continuinged@savannahtech.edu.

What payment options do you accept?

We accept credit cards, debit cards. If paying by credit card or debit card, you can provide payment information over the phone. Payment must be received no later than 3 days prior to the start of the class. Seats are limited and first come, first served. Your seat is only confirmed once payment has been received.
