The Manufacturing Institute and Savannah Technical College Celebrate Landmark Heroes MAKE America Triple Cohort Graduation

(FORT STEWART, Ga.) Savannah Technical College, in collaboration with The Manufacturing Institute’s Heroes MAKE America (HMA) initiative, celebrated a milestone achievement in workforce development, honoring graduates from three distinct cohorts of HMA’s SkillBridge training programs. This ceremony marked a significant first for the initiative, as it included the inaugural graduating class of the Fast Track Automation & Robotics program, and graduates from the Fast Track Logistics and Fast Track Airframe & Powerplant Prep (A&P Prep) tracks.

The graduation represents more than the completion of a curriculum; it signifies the next step in transition for service members, helping them move from military duty to civilian careers. These graduates have translated their service, training, and experience into high-demand technical skills, directly addressing the workforce needs of the Coastal Empire’s booming manufacturing and aviation sectors.

Launched in April of this year, graduates of the new Fast Track A&P Prep course are the third cohort to complete the intensive six-week course designed to fast-track participants toward earning their FAA Aviation Mechanic certification. Their entry into the workforce comes at a critical time, providing essential talent for aviation giants like Gulfstream Aerospace. Alongside them, graduates from the Fast Track Automation & Robotics program are now prepared to step into roles supporting advanced manufacturing facilities, while Fast Track Logistics graduates are ready to manage the complex supply chains that drive the regional economy.

“These programs are a dynamic response to the evolving demands of American manufacturing,” said Ryan W. Foley, President of Savannah Technical College. “Our partnership with Heroes MAKE America ensures service members and their families have access to cutting-edge training and opens opportunities for these folks right here at home.”

“The Manufacturing Institute congratulates all the students who will start the New Year with life-changing skills and certifications for in-demand careers,” said Amy Thomas, National Director of Heroes MAKE America. “This milestone graduation reflects the strength of our partnership with Savannah Technical College and the potential for transitioning service members to start their second career in manufacturing. We wish them well are excited to welcome them into the manufacturing workforce.”

For many of these transitioning service members, this program bridges the gap between military experience and a clear civilian career path. The training provides not only technical proficiency but also renewed confidence, direction, and a sense of professional belonging in the civilian sector. By validating military skills with industry-recognized certifications, the program removes uncertainty from the post-service career transitions. It eliminates guesswork for employers, giving them confidence in a candidate’s readiness from day one. The success of these cohorts highlights the critical role industry partnerships and donor support play in building the skilled talent manufacturing needs. Through these investments, partners help prepare job-ready veterans whose skills strengthen the manufacturing workforce.

Three Reasons You Must Know Microsoft Office in the Workplace

What if we could give you a surefire way to set yourself apart from other job applicants in any organization or industry? While there are no magic formulas for gaining the knowledge needed to be successful, there is a way to put yourself ahead in almost any position in any industry. You need to learn and master the Microsoft Office 2019 suite.

Microsoft’s Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are some of the most widely-used business productivity programs. This means you need to know them, and we’re not talking about knowing just the basics. We’re talking about learning to use these programs at a more advanced level. If you need a refresher or want to take your Microsoft Office skills to the next level, you can learn the latest software online.

Regardless of where you’re at in your career, here are three reasons to master the newest Microsoft Office software:

1. Microsoft Office products are the most widely-used business productivity software worldwide.

Searching for a job can be tough. Similarly, working toward advancement in your organization is also tough. But knowing how to use one of the most popular business software products will go a long way in helping you reach your goals.

Microsoft Office is extremely popular. It’s ease-of-use, accessibility, interactivity, and adaptability across operating systems have made its programs the most commonly used tools within companies around the world.

In fact, there are over 1.2 billion users of Microsoft Office products. More than 60 million businesses have a monthly subscription to Office 365. On top of that, approximately 50,000 new small businesses purchase Microsoft Office products each month!

It has been shown to drastically increase productivity, and it’s so widely used that the skills you gain will be transferrable to any new job or company you join throughout your career.

2. Knowing Microsoft Office products will give you a leg up in the job hunt.

Review any job posting that interests you. (Seriously, do it right now.) You’ll see that knowledge of at least one Microsoft Office product is a requirement for the job.

Listing proficiency in Microsoft helps push your resume through applicant tracking systems and into human hands for review. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office programs can also increase your earning potential.

In fact, earning a Microsoft Office Specialist certification can increase your salary up to $16,000 above those without certification.

3. Microsoft Office knowledge helps you be a better employee and coworker.

When you learn Microsoft Office 2019 programs beyond just using basic functions, you will increase your productivity. High productivity is essential to long-term success in your career.

Moreover, your ability to operate efficiently will move the business forward and make you an invaluable part of the team, a better co-worker, and a leader in the workplace. How To Run Your Own Freight Broker business

Learn about the freight broker’s role in the shipping industry

Freight brokerage is a growing, service-based industry. As a freight agent or broker, you connect shippers and manufacturers with transportation companies and manage those shipments. Entrepreneur magazine has rated the freight brokerage business as one of the top home-based businesses to own, and a Wall Street Journal article cited freight brokering and logistics as the largest growing sector of the transportation industry.

What is a freight broker?

A freight broker arranges and makes provision for the transportation of shipments, but he or she doesn’t actually provide the transportation. They help the shipper and the motor carrier company, negotiate on both sides, and earn a fee for their work. Freight brokers use their expertise to set up the shipment, negotiate the terms of the transaction, and manage the shipment from its origin to its destination.

What does a freight broker do?

The freight broker works within the company to manage the day-to-day tasks required to move goods from place to place. They hire carriers and monitor financial aspects such as invoicing, paying agents, and monitoring credit. The government may require additional fees and paperwork for a brokerage license, but not for becoming a freight agent.

How do you get your freight broker license?

First, it is recommended that you enroll in a freight broker course to fully prepare for the position. Then there are very few steps required to get your freight broker license. You will need to establish a business structure, submit an application for motor carrier and broker authority (OP-1 Form), obtain a surety bond, select a process agent, and finally register the brokerage. A license is granted by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, FMCSA. You will fill out an application and pay a one-time fee. Once your application is approved, there is a 10-day waiting period before you are granted full license.

Online freight broker training

Freight broker training will help you learn the skills you need to be a successful Freight Broker/Agent. From licensing and operations to sales and marketing, you’ll learn the basics of how to run a domestic freight brokerage or agency in the United States.

Savannah Technical College offers an online freight broker course. Written by freight brokerage specialists, this freight broker course will provide you with the knowledge and resources needed to break into the shipping industry. From transportation law, contracts, and insurance, to setting up and running your own business, this is the best online freight broker training available.
