Cosmetology students present 2023 Hair Show

RINCON, Ga. – Savannah Technical College Cosmetology students hosted a hair show at the Effingham Campus this week. This annual event provides an opportunity for students to demonstrate their skills and creativity for family, friends, and the community. This year’s theme was masquerade.

Ariella Gallegos participated in the hair show and plans to work at her mom’s salon, Chic & Co. Studio. Ariella earned her GED with prep classes from Savannah Tech and then enrolled in Cosmetology. She is projected to graduate with a Cosmetology Diploma in May 2023.

Jada Lovett is a dual enrollment Cosmetology student at the Effingham Campus and a South Effingham High School senior, who will graduate from high school next month. She is on track to complete the Shampoo Technician TCC this spring and will continue the Cosmetology diploma program at the College. She plans to work in a nail salon and eventually open her own shop.

STC’s hair show started as a fun option for second-year students also known as “seniors.” After the College’s first hair show in 2011, all Cosmetology students were invited to participate, including STC’s dual enrollment students.

STC Cosmetology Instructor Denean Reynolds came up with the idea of a hair show after attending a Bronner Brother’s hair show, one of the biggest in the world. She thought it would be fun and exciting for students to showcase their talent and a great opportunity to promote the program.

Cosmetology is offered at the College’s Effingham, Liberty and Savannah campuses. The program emphasizes not only specialized training in the field of cosmetology, but also interpersonal relations development, employability skills and work ethics. The curriculum meets state licensing requirements of the State Board of Cosmetology, and STC’s graduates have a 100% pass rate.

Once program graduates receive a Cosmetology diploma and pass their board exams, they are eligible to work as a hair stylist, nail technician, makeup artist, salon manager/owner, skin care specialist, and more. Students may also take short-term training to earn a technical certificate of credit with for designer, nail technician, and shampoo technician. Cosmetology’s occupational programs are open to high school students in 10-12th grade through Dual Enrollment. For more information about Cosmetology training visit www.savannahtech.edu/Cosmetology.

The College offers hair, skin and nail care services for the public when classes are in session. Visit www.savannahtech.edu/beautyshop for a list of services, pricing, and the schedule that shows when the shops are open based on academic instruction. Prices are subject to change without notice.
