STC announces finalists for GOAL (Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership)

SAVANNAH – Savannah Technical College has chosen four outstanding students as finalists for the annual Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) and will announce the winner at a celebration luncheon Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 11:45 in the college’s Eckburg Auditorium.GOAL honors excellence in academics and leadership statewide among Georgia’s technical college students. Chosen as finalists are:

Jonathan Baker, Automotive Technology

Shreeta Brathwaite, Medical Assisting

Kathryn Hardigan, Electrical Construction and Maintenance Technology

Maki Santos, Early Childhood Care and Education

 

At the luncheon, students will be joined by their families and their nominating instructors as well as 2011 GOAL judges. A panel of judges including College President Kathy Love and community members Mary Chatman of Memorial Health, Roger Moss of The Savannah Children’s Choir and Jeremy Summerell of The Coastal Bank selected the winning candidate. The winner will deliver his or her 3-minute speech about why s/he chose a technical education. “The purpose of the GOAL program is to highlight the many achievements of students at Georgia’s technical colleges and to emphasize the importance of technical education in today’s workforce,” says Laurie Herrington, STC GOAL Coordinator for 2011.

The winner will receive a $500 scholarship and a dedicated parking space for the year and will represent Savannah Technical College at the regional competition to be held March 24 at Altamaha Technical College in Brunswick. All 26 college winners will gather in May in Atlanta for the selection of the 2011 GOAL student to represent the Technical College System of Georgia as a student ambassador.
