Savannah Tech students win 12 medals at SkillsUSA State conference

ATLANTA – Savannah Technical College students won medals in 12 competitions at the 2018 SkillsUSA Postsecondary State Conference, held in Atlanta, Ga. More than 500 college students from across the state of Georgia took part in the three-day competition. SkillsUSA is a career and technical student organization that annually serves more than 320,000 high school, college and postsecondary students–and their instructors–in technical, skilled and service-occupation instructional programs.

STC Industrial Maintenance Systems students won gold for the second year in a row with a new team, Miguel Gonzales and Robert Griner. Other gold medals include Construction Management student Taylor McMasters (Carpentry); Cosmetology students Rachel Nelson (cosmetology) and Whitney Turnquest (nail care); Automotive Technology student Jonathan Nary (mobile electronics installation); Welding student Erin Klienweber (welding art sculpture); and Practical Nursing student Jannie Jason (nurse assisting).

Three silver medals went to the Quiz Bowl team (Charles Dekle, Andrew Huggins, Victor Delacruz, Bradley Cannon, Anthony Smith, Aaron Rollison, Ian Rowe); Business student Tierra Smith (customer service); and the Health Knowledge Bowl team of practical nursing students (Quinyana Muniz, Martha Trevina, Kimberly Britz, Breana Harris).

Bronze medal winners include Practical Nursing students Justin Ritz (Medical Math) and Stephanie Hahn (CPR First Aid).

Students who won gold at the state competition are eligible to compete in the national competition in Louisville, Ky., June 25-29, 2018 for the 54th annual National Leadership and Skills Conference.
