Safrin named Director of STC’s Peace Officer Academy

Thomas Safrin

SAVANNAH – Savannah Technical College has selected Thomas Safrin as Director of the Peace Officer Academy. In this role, Safrin is responsible for developing course objectives, preparing lesson plans for instruction, and maintaining program certification requirements.

His background includes more than 18 years of experience in public service ranging from law enforcement to training and education. Safrin also has more than five years of collective experience in leadership positions. He has extensive knowledge of the Technical College System of Georgia Criminal Justice curriculum, as well as the Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council Basic Law Enforcement Training curriculum.

The Basic Law Enforcement Technical Certificate of Credit provides students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to become competent and highly effective law enforcement officers. The 18-week cohort program utilizes classroom instruction pertaining to criminal justice theory and the prevailing principles of modern law enforcement, as well as practical application of enforcement skills. College coursework is presented in one and a half semesters and contains the entire Georgia Peace Officers Standards & Training (P.O.S.T.) Basic Law Enforcement Training Course so that successful completion of the program will qualify the student to be a state-certified peace officer.  Students will have received 42 semester hours of college credit and completed ten courses toward completion of the Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice Degree, should they choose to continue their education beyond the Academy.
