SAVANNAH – Savannah Technical College’s Liberty campus will begin offering on-campus courses to its online Paralegal Studies program in Fall Semester 2012.

For more information about the Paralegal Studies program, Savannah Tech will host an information session on its rigorous academic curriculum that offers an applied learning experience and will enable personal and professional advancement.

The information session will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 26 at the Liberty campus (100 Technology Drive, Hinesville, GA 31313). The nature of the work, employment opportunities and training for a career as a paralegal will be presented in the free session. This session will provide an opportunity to meet with admissions counselors, as well as network with faculty, students and alumni. Contact Paralegal Studies Department Head Debra Geiger at 912.443.5715 or dgeiger@savannahtech.edu for more information.

Paralegal Studies has been an online option for students in the Liberty County area for several years. Now, Savannah Tech is actively developing the Paralegal Studies program to include a physical presence in the Liberty County community.

“Introduction to Law and Ethics” (PARA1100) will be offered at 11 a.m. on Tuesdays during the Fall semester. This course emphasizes the American legal system, the role of the lawyer and legal assistance within that system and the ethical obligations imposed upon attorneys and legal assistants.

The Paralegal Studies program is a sequence of courses preparing students for a career in the paralegal profession. The knowledge and skills emphasized in the Paralegal Studies program include ethical obligations; research in state and federal law; legal correspondence preparation; family law matters; basic concepts of real property law; criminal law and procedure; civil litigation; substantive contract law; wills, trusts and probate. Paralegals, also called legal assistants, work closely with attorneys, judges, prosecutors or public defenders. Graduates receive a Paralegal Studies Associate of Applied Technology degree.
