Dual Enrollment for
High School Students

Double the credit. Half the time. Zero the tuition.

Dual Enrollment allows qualified high school students to maximize their education and career training by taking courses that earn college and high school credit at the same time! Students may choose to enroll fully in a Degree, Diploma, or Technical Certificate of Credit (TCC) Program, or they may choose to just take a few courses. Courses are taught on college campuses, some high school campuses, online, and hybrid (a blend of online and in-person classes).

Starting in the summer of 10th grade (after completion of 9th grade), students are eligible to take occupational or CTAE courses through Dual Enrollment funding. Junior and senior-level (starting summer prior to 11th grade) students are eligible to take core/general education, as well as occupational courses. Financial Aid is available for students who meet the requirements. Students who are not eligible for Financial Aid to cover their Dual Enrollment courses are responsible for paying all tuition and any required fees. *Additional program-specific fees for occupational courses may be charged.

Benefits of taking Savannah Technical College courses while in high school through Dual Enrollment

  • Savannah Tech offers 28 general core courses (Math, Science, English, History, etc.) that transfer to USG colleges and universities! *Fine Arts courses are no longer approved for Dual Enrollment funding.*
  • College credits taken and paid through Dual Enrollment funding do not count against HOPE Scholarship or HOPE Grant hours after high school graduation.

Are you Ready for Dual Enrollment?

Meet with your high school counselor and parent/guardian to discuss the following:

  1. Consider the impact of Dual Enrollment on your high school grade point average and college enrollment.
  2. Visit gafutures.org to learn more about eligibility requirements and the impact, if any, of dual enrollment funding on future HOPE eligibility.
  3. Discuss high school graduation requirements and STC program requirements.
  4. Discuss transportation, class attendance, class schedule, and whether the dual enrollment schedule might impact extra-curricular activities.
  5. Review the STC Academic Calendar to determine whether the course schedule, holidays, and home study program schedule impact vacation planning.
  6. Consider what happens if a failing grade or withdrawal occurs.

Steps to Apply for Dual Enrollment

  1. Complete the STC Admissions Application. Select “high school student-dual” from the application type (drop-down box) so that you will be classified as a dual enrollment student and the $25 application fee will be waived.
    Submit your official test scores (ACT, SAT, PSAT, ACCUPLACER, or  Hope GPA) to Savannah Tech.
  2. Hope GPA can be used for acceptance(after completion of 10th grade)
    • Degree/diploma level programs require a 2.6 GPA and TCC level programs require a 2.0 GPA.  Please have your high school email us your official transcript to [email protected]
    • Hope GPA can be used for acceptance (after completion of 10th grade)
    • If the above requirements are not met, you can still apply for Dual Enrollment by successfully completing the assessment test. If you need Accuplacer testing our STC testing center to schedule a FREE ACCUPLACER assessment.
  3. Complete the Dual Enrollment Funding Application
    1. A new funding application must be submitted each year student intends to enroll with Dual Enrollment.
  4. Schedule a registration appointment – new students can work with their high school counselor and assigned DE Coordinator to register for classes. Returning students may email their Dual Enrollment representative the course schedule along with the completed/signed Dual Enrollment Funding application and Participation Agreement.
  5. Sign the Authorization for the Release of Records to a third-party (optional). This optional form allows a third-party, such as a parent, access to the student’s educational records.

Dual Enrollment funding is available to any 10-12th grader in Georgia for occupational/CTAE courses; and any 11-12th grader in academic core courses through Dual Enrollment.

  • Ninth graders are not eligible for Dual Enrollment funding but may self-pay or have their tuition paid by their school system or another partner.
  • Students are limited to a total of 30 Dual Enrollment Funding hours total, with a limit of 15 hours per semester.
  • Starting with Summer 2020, students with 2 or more withdrawals become ineligible for Dual Enrollment Funding.

HOPE Grant and HOPE Career Grant Bridge Funding:

The HOPE Grant and HOPE Career Grant Bridge Funding can be used to fund additional courses for regular Dual Enrollment students after students have exhausted their 30 Dual Enrollment Funded hours.

  • Students wishing to use the HOPE Grant/HOPE Career Grant must choose from a HOPE Career Grant program.
  • Students who use the HOPE Grant/HOPE Career Grant must meet HOPE residency requirements.
  • Any HOPE Career Grant or HOPE Grant hours used will count against HOPE and Zell Miller caps.

Self-Pay Options:

  • Ninth graders who enroll in Dual Enrollment courses may self-pay for tuition and any required fees.
  • Students may elect to self-pay for courses at any point during enrollment.
  • Students not eligible for Financial Aid to cover their Dual Enrollment courses are responsible for paying all tuition and any required fees.

Tuition, Fees, and Books:

Tuition and most fees are covered by Dual Enrollment for every eligible student in the program. Books will also be provided to Dual Enrollment students at no charge. * Some programs may require additional fees not covered in Dual Enrollment*

Additional funding fine print:

  • Fifth-year seniors are no longer eligible for Dual Enrollment with the full 30 hour CAP
  • The unlimited CAP for students enrolled in Option B is ONLY for those students who have already been in identified SP 20 and were enrolled in DE
  • Homeschool students and those students without a social security number may now submit electronic forms on the GA Futures website.
  • If a student does not have a social security number, the student must submit the funding application and GSFC (Georgia Student Finance Commission) will create a nine-digit number for them that will be used to invoice/process payments for DE Coursework.

Continue your college education with Savannah Technical College

Dual Enrollment students who wish to continue their college career at Savannah Tech after high school graduation are encouraged to submit an application online and submit an official copy of your high school transcript:

Submit an application online

  • To update your records from a Dual Enrollment student to a regular STC student you will need to complete and submit a STC application again. Make sure to indicate you have been a “Dual Enrollment” student at Savannah Tech to have the $25 application fee waived.
  • To qualify for in-state tuition and state-sponsored financial aid (such as the HOPE) you must show proof of Georgia residency (link has a complete list of accepted documentation)

Submit an official copy of your high school transcript

  • Most of STC’s programs of study require a high school diploma or GED for admittance into the program. In order to accept you into a program of study, we will need an official copy of your official high school transcript with your graduation date listed. Official transcripts must be sent directly from high schools and must include your graduation date and final GPA.
  • Dual Enrollment students wishing to take summer courses may submit an official high school transcript with a letter from their high school guidance counselor that states they are on track to graduate (projected graduation date should be listed) in order to register for summer classes. Once a high school transcript with the graduation date is available, the student must submit a copy to the Admission’s office in order to be able to continue classes with STC in future semesters.

Transferring to another college or university?

If you are continuing your education at another college or university, they will need you to submit your STC records. To share your transcript, submit a transcript request online. Please be aware that STC records cannot be released if there are any current holds on your account, including those for unreturned textbooks.

Take flight on your career in high school

The Aviation Manufacturing and Service Program is a four-year, high school Choice Program based at Robert W. Groves High School with Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS). Students will gain a fundamental knowledge base in aviation history and regulations, the basic principles of flight, aerospace careers, and factors influencing work systems, aerospace technologies, and basic aviation meteorology. Students will learn the basics of aircraft maintenance, performance, and design.

Upon program acceptance, students receive courses and training from Savannah-Chatham County instructors (freshman/sophomore years) and Savannah Tech instructors (junior/senior years) to earn three aviation technical certificates of credit (TCC) as dual enrollment students. While in high school, students will have the opportunity to job shadow and complete apprenticeships at Gulfstream. Prior to graduation, students are interviewed and possibly offered positions at Gulfstream.

The program is a partnership between Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools, Savannah Technical College, and Gulfstream Aerospace, providing students an opportunity to earn training and certifications from Savannah Technical College in multiple programs that directly lead to employment in advanced manufacturing careers.

Accelerated Career Diploma (Option B)

Accelerated Career Diploma (formerly High School Graduation Option B or Senate Bill 2) offers qualified students another path to high school graduation. Students choose to simultaneously earn a high school diploma and a Savannah Technical College diploma or two Technical Certificates of Credit (TCCs) in a specific career pathway. Accelerated Career Diploma is only available for those students attending a public high school in Georgia.

Students enrolling in Accelerated Career Diploma are limited to 30 hours of Dual Enrollment funding, just like traditional Dual Enrollment students. Qualified Accelerated Career Diploma students, who max out their 30 hours of Dual Enrollment Funding, may use the HOPE Grant/HOPE Career Grant to finish their program, if eligible. Students who use the HOPE Grant/HOPE Career Grant must meet HOPE residency requirements. Any HOPE Career Grant or HOPE Grant hours used will count against HOPE caps

Anthony Daiello

Anthony Daiello’s interest in airplanes began when he was just a boy. Now this high school senior’s passion has propelled his training and prepared him for a careerof a lifetime. When he graduates from Bradwell Institute – a semester ahead of schedule – he will have three aviation certificates, seven general core courses, and a potential aerospace job offer once he’s 18.

Savannah Technical College Baking and Pastry graduate Rachel Peeples began her college career as a junior at Richmond Hill High School.She completed her Baking and Pastry associate degree in May2016 and has since earned degrees in Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management. She is the lead baker at The Deck at The Landings.

Saché Rodriguez

Saché Rodriguez earned a diploma in Cosmetology at Savannah Technical College as a Bradwell Institute high school student through dual enrollment. In the 2020 Skills USA Georgia high school competition shewon gold/first place for Esthetics in the high school division.

London Marshall

London Marshall graduated from Bradwell Institute (high school) with a diploma in Barbering from Savannah Tech through Dual Enrollment.

Rhett Dozier

As a dual enrollment student from Long County High School, Rhett Dozier earned an Associate of Science degree in Information Technology from Savannah Technical College with a 4.0 GPA.
