Active Duty

Financial assistance for active-duty service members to pursue certificates, associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees at Savannah Technical College.

The Active Duty Tuition Assistance (TA) program provides financial support for active-duty service members to complete a high school diploma, associate, baccalaureate, or master’s degree, as well as certificate programs.

TA is not authorized for programs beyond a master’s degree and will not be approved for completing credentials at the same or a lower educational level.

Step 4: Request Tuition Assistance

  • Register for courses at Savannah Technical College.
  • Request TA through your branch portal.
  • Requests must be submitted before the course start date or before the late registration period.
  • TA must be requested for each course.

Step 5: Payment Process

  • TA payments are sent directly to Savannah Technical College.
  • Students are responsible for any remaining tuition or fees not covered by TA or other financial aid.
  • Outstanding balances must be paid before the semester begins.

  • TA is approved on a course-by-course basis
  • Approval must be completed before classes begin
  • Students must keep contact information updated with both their military branch and the Savannah Technical College Office of Admissions

Active Duty Spouses

Career development and financial assistance for military spouses pursuing education and training for in-demand careers.

The Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts Program (SpouseWorks) is part of the Department of Defense Spouse Education and Career Opportunities (SECO) program.

SpouseWorks helps eligible military spouses pursue licenses, certificates, certifications, or associate degrees required for employment in high-demand, high-growth portable career fields.

Note: Associate degrees in General Studies, Liberal Arts, and Interdisciplinary Studies without a concentration are not eligible.

  • Program must lead to employment in an approved career field

Step 1: Apply to Savannah Technical College

Step 3: Meet with Savannah Tech

  • After acceptance, meet with a School Certifying Official
  • Develop your Education and Training Plan

Step 4: Submit Your Plan for Approval

  • Submit your Education and Training Plan to SpouseWorks
  • Approval must be received before enrolling in classes

Step 5: Payment Process

  • SpouseWorks payments are sent directly to Savannah Technical College
  • Students are responsible for any remaining tuition or fees not covered by SpouseWorks or other financial aid
  • Outstanding balances must be paid before the semester begins

  • Approval is required before course registration
  • Classes to have to align with the education program/degree plan that the student signed up for
  • Keep contact information updated with both SpouseWorks and the Savannah Technical College Office of Admissions

Veterans

Education benefits for veterans and eligible service members to support training, certification, and degree programs at Savannah Technical College.

Savannah Technical College supports veterans and eligible students through a variety of VA education benefit programs, including the GI Bill®. These programs help cover tuition, fees, and other education-related costs depending on eligibility.

  • Veterans and eligible service members
  • Must qualify for one of the VA education benefit chapters
  • Must be approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs

Step 1: Apply to Savannah Technical College

Step 2: Apply for VA Education Benefits

Apply under the appropriate chapter:

  • Chapter 30 – Active Duty (MGIB-AD)
  • Chapter 31 – Vocational Rehabilitation
  • Chapter 33 – Post-9/11 GI Bill
    • Submit your Certificate of Eligibility to the Financial Aid Office School Certifying Official.
  • Chapter 1606 – Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR)

Step 3: Request your DD214

Step 4: Submit Enrollment Certification

  • After registering for classes, submit a request for Enrollment Certification.
  • Must be submitted each semester.
  • Submit at least two weeks before the semester begins.
  • You will receive confirmation via email once certified.

Chapters 30, 35, and 1606

  • Payments are made directly to the student
  • Students are responsible for paying tuition and fees not covered by financial aid before the semester begins

Chapters 31 and 33

  • Payments are made directly to Savannah Technical College
  • Students are responsible for any remaining balance not covered by benefits or financial aid

Full payment of outstanding charges is due the day before the semester begins.

  • Enrollment Certification must be submitted every semester
  • Keep your contact information updated with the Savannah Technical College Office of Admissions

Veteran Dependents

Education benefits for eligible dependents of service members through transferred Post-9/11 GI Bill® benefits or Chapter 35 DEA.

A provision of the Post-9/11 GI Bill allows eligible service members to transfer education benefits to their immediate family members. The Department of Defense determines eligibility for benefit transfer.

Dependents may also qualify for Chapter 35 Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA).

  • Dependents of eligible service members or veterans
  • Must be approved for transferred Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits or Chapter 35 DEA
  • Eligibility is determined by the Department of Defense or the Department of Veterans Affairs

Military Benefits & Important Information

Savannah Technical College is a nationally accredited institution approved to participate in and administer Veterans Education programs. One in four students has a military affiliation, and we are committed to supporting military-connected students throughout their educational journey.

Savannah Technical College does not assume that you want to use your education benefits each semester. Students are responsible for securing their Military Education Benefits prior to enrollment.

  • You must request Enrollment Certification each semester after registering for classes
  • Benefits are not automatically applied

Payment for tuition and fees is due before the first day of class each semester.

  • Students are responsible for ensuring their military or veteran education benefit funding is secured before the semester begins
  • Any remaining balance not covered by benefits or financial aid must be paid by the deadline

If you receive other types of federal or state financial aid, you may be eligible for an excess financial aid refund.

  • Fall 2025: 08/12/2025
  • Spring 2026: 01/07/2026
  • Summer 2026: 05/13/2026

Military Scholarship Assistance

Savannah Technical College is committed to supporting military-affiliated students as they transition to civilian careers. Nearly one-quarter of our students have a military connection, and we offer additional financial support through institutional and partner-funded scholarships.

Assistance by Military Affiliation

Active Duty

  • College waives fees each semester
  • STC Freedom Fund assists with book costs

Military Spouses (SpouseWorks)

  • STC Freedom Fund may cover fees each semester and assist with tools
  • Landings Military Family Relief Fund Scholarship may cover remaining tuition

VA Benefits Expired (No Funding)

  • Students may apply for the STC Freedom Fund to assist with tuition

VA Benefits Less Than 100%

  • STC Freedom Fund may be applied toward:
    • Tuition
    • Fees
    • Books
    • Required equipment

Funding amounts:

  • Less than 15 credit hours: up to $300
  • 15 or more credit hours: up to $500

Notes

  • All private scholarship funds are applied directly to student accounts
  • Funds may be used in the Campus Shop for approved expenses
  • Funds are not issued directly to students

Military Freedom Fund

Savannah Technical College’s Military Freedom Fund provides financial assistance to military-affiliated students whose education benefits do not fully cover their expenses.

Student Veteran Organization

Savannah Technical College’s Student Veteran Organization provides a welcoming community for military members, veterans, and their spouses and dependents. Through connection, engagement, shared experiences, and access to valuable resources, the organization helps students build a strong support network and enhances their overall college experience.

The mission of the Student Veteran Organization is to:

  • Foster and develop a social network for student veterans and their families
  • Collaborate with other veteran organizations to enhance services and benefits
  • Provide a sense of community, fellowship, and camaraderie

The organization aims to:

  • Raise awareness of the organization
  • Elect student leaders
  • Build a strong network for military-affiliated students
  • Participate in community outreach projects
  • Host events such as a Veterans Day Appreciation Luncheon
  • Create an engaging and supportive student experience

Transfer Students

Savannah Technical College is committed to helping students receive maximum credit for prior learning experiences. Credit may be awarded for previous academic work, training, and other qualifying experiences to support your progress toward completing a diploma or degree.

Students may receive credit for prior learning, whether formal or informal, resulting in advanced standing within a program of study. All credit is evaluated to ensure it meets institutional and accreditation standards.

Traditional Transfer Credit

  • Credit may be awarded for courses completed with a grade of “C” or better
  • Courses must be from an accredited college, university, or postsecondary institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education

High School Articulation

  • Students may receive credit for articulated high school courses
  • Must be within two years of high school graduation
  • Requires successful completion of competency validation exams

Standardized Exam Credit

  • Credit may be awarded for nationally recognized exams such as:
    • CLEP
    • Advanced Placement (AP)
    • International Baccalaureate (IB)

Military Training Credit

  • Credit may be awarded for military training when applicable
  • Must align with course competencies
  • Evaluated using:
    • American Council on Education (ACE) guidelines
    • Community College of the Air Force documentation

Students must complete a minimum of 25% of the coursework required for their program at Savannah Technical College in order to receive a degree or diploma.

  • Submit official transcripts from all previously attended postsecondary institutions
  • Transcripts must be:
    • Sent directly to Savannah Technical College
    • Or hand delivered in a sealed envelope with the official seal
  • Standardized exam credits must be verified through official score reports

Financial Aid Shopping Sheet

Savannah Technical College is a proud participant in the President’s Executive Order 13607, which establishes Principles of Excellence for educational institutions serving service members, veterans, spouses, and their families.

As part of this commitment, Savannah Technical College provides a Financial Aid Shopping Sheet to help students better understand the cost of attendance and the financial aid available to them.

The Shopping Sheet is a standardized tool that offers a clear breakdown of:

  • Tuition and estimated costs
  • Federal and state financial aid eligibility
  • Net cost after aid

  • Complete the FAFSA application
  • Once your financial aid eligibility is determined, you will receive an email from the Financial Aid Office
  • Access your Shopping Sheet through your Banner account

A Shopping Sheet will be issued:

  • With your initial financial aid award
  • Each time updates or changes are made to your award throughout the year
