Applying for Aid

To apply for Federal and State financial aid, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form each year. The FAFSA covers your enrollment for fall, spring, and summer semesters. Most students and parents complete the FAFSA after filing their federal taxes each year. For assistance on completing FAFSA visit the Federal Student Aid Information Center and Contact Center. Check out the Federal Student Aid website where you can view and download YouTube videos to learn more about financial aid and how to apply.

Fill Out FAFSA Application

Financial Aid Priority Deadlines

  • Fall 2026: 7/30/2026
  • Spring 2027: 12/04/2026

Payment deadlines:

  • Fall 2026: 08/12/2026

Three easy steps to apply for federal and state financial aid

Step One

  • Set up your FSA-User ID and Password here.  You will need the FSA User-ID and Password to electronically sign and complete your FAFSA.
  • If you are a dependent student, your parents will also need to create a parental FSA User ID and Password to provide information and electronically sign your FAFSA form. Make sure student and parental emails are different – student and parent cannot use the same email address when setting up each of the User ID/Passwords.
  • Protect your FSA User-ID and Password as you would your ATM or SSN.
  • If you need assistance while completing your application, visit the official Federal Student Aid FAFSA Help Center.

Step Two

  • Log in to the official Federal Student Aid website to begin your application.
  • Once you have your FSA User-ID/Password set up, you are ready to complete the FAFSA form.
  • Helpful Tips for Completing the FAFSA
    • Use your legal name as it appears with the Social Security Administration
    • Make sure your social security number and date of birth are accurate.
    • Provide a current address, phone, and email address.
    • Use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to automatically transfer your federal tax information from the IRS to the FAFSA application. This will reduce errors.
    • Include Savannah Technical College School Code: 005618.
    • You (and if dependent, a parent) must electronically sign the FAFSA using your PIN#.
    • Make sure you follow through and submit the application.

Step Three

  • The FAFSA processor will send you a confirmation email once the FAFSA is received and processed. The FAFSA processor will also send Savannah Tech your FAFSA results electronically within 5-7 business days.
  • Once your FAFSA results are received by the school, the Financial Aid Office will determine your eligibility for Federal and State financial aid. An Award Notification email will be sent to your STC email address and include instructions on how to access your award information.

Understand Your Financial Aid

Determining Eligibility

Basic Eligibility Requirements for All Types of Financial Aid

  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form each year.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen.
  • Have a valid Social Security number.
  • Not in default on prior Federal Student Loans, owe a refund on a Federal grant or Georgia HOPE Grant/Scholarship, or have a Federal lien.
  • Have a high school diploma, GED, or proof of approved home school equivalency.
  • No prior drug sale or possession convictions while receiving Federal Student Financial Aid.
  • Male students between the ages of 18-25 must register, as required, with Selective Service.
  • Be admitted and enrolled at least half-time (minimum of six credits each semester) in an approved program of study (some aid programs may allow less than half-time enrollment).
  • Be in good academic standing (AS) and maintain satisfactory academic progress (SAP).
  • Provide all required documents requested by the Financial Aid Office.

Each type of financial aid may require additional information for determining eligibility and award amounts. GA State Aid programs have additional SAP requirements. For more details regarding State aid program requirements, you may contact the Financial Aid Office. To learn more about the Federal aid programs and how to apply visit the U.S. Department of Education website https://studentaid.gov.

Verify My FAFSA

The U.S. Department of Education selects student FAFSA applications for the verification process. The verification selection can be random or because your FAFSA information was incomplete, estimated or inconsistent. If Savannah Technical College (STC) finds conflicting or discrepant information, STC may also select your FAFSA for verification.

What does Verification mean?

If your FAFSA application is selected for Verification by the Department of Education or Savannah Tech, the Financial Aid Office is required to confirm (verify) that the information provided on the FAFSA form is accurate by obtaining additional documentation from you. If there are discrepancies, the college is also required to correct the FAFSA application and adjust financial aid eligibility accordingly.

You are now able to complete most of your outstanding Financial Aid requirements/tasks online, with secure document upload from any device and e-sign capabilities. We are excited to announce that our new self-service financial aid process is here! The STC Financial Aid Office is introducing a new easy, mobile, personalized process that makes submitting financial aid documents easier. To get started, you must create a Verify My FAFSA account by following the steps below:

Create Your Account

You’ll be asked for some basic information when creating your account. This information is used to validate your identity so that an electronic signature can be used on future forms.

Four Easy Steps:

  1. Go to https://savannahtech.verifymyfafsa.com
  2. Click ‘Create Account’ link
  3. Enter/confirm your student information
  4. Click ‘Create Account’ button

Once your account is created, any required documents/tasks you need to complete will become available to view. For dependent students, sometimes a Parent Account may be required to allow electronic signatures as well.

 Important Guidelines for Account Creation

  • A STC Student Email is required for Account Creation.
  • The information that you used on your FAFSA needs to be the same information that you use to create your account. If you use a different name or other personal information than what is in your FAFSA you will be shown error code 1010.
  • You need to create your account before your parent does.
  • Your parents password is also their E-sign (pin)
  • Don’t forget that once your parent signs the requested documents, you will need to go back in and complete all required steps.

After Verification is Complete

If the data reported on your FAFSA is confirmed, the Financial Aid Office will determine your eligibility for financial aid. We will send an Award Notification to your Savannah Tech student email with instructions of how to access your financial aid information online at Banner Web Self-Service account.

If we find differences between the data reported on your FAFSA and the information that you submitted to us, we may make corrections to your FAFSA, which will delay processing. It generally takes 3-5 business days for STC to receive the updated results of your FAFSA from the processor. The processor will also send you an updated student aid report.

Expect Financial Aid Emails

Throughout the verification process, we will send an email to your Savannah Tech email account to notify you if additional documentation is required. All financial aid communications are sent to your Savannah Tech student email account. All document requests must be completed before any financial aid can be disbursed to your account.
