Savannah Tech Revives Annual Black History Extravaganza, Continuing Legacy of Celebration and Opportunity

(SAVANNAH, Ga.) Savannah Technical College (Savannah Tech), the premier provider of career-ready technical education in Coastal Georgia, is proud to announce the revival of its annual Black History Extravaganza. After a brief hiatus, the beloved event returns on Thursday, February 20, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Eckburg Auditorium on the main campus, 5717 White Bluff Road, Savannah, Ga.
This year’s event, facilitated by Dr. Kwajalein Roberson Harmon, will not only celebrate African American history, culture, and community. This event, a cherished tradition last held in 2017, will now be an annual celebration moving forward.
“We are incredibly excited to bring back the Black History Extravaganza,” said Dr. Ryan W. Foley, President of Savannah Technical College. “This event has always been a powerful way to honor the contributions of African Americans and to connect with our community. Its return signifies our continued commitment to celebrating diversity and fostering an inclusive environment at Savannah Tech.”
The Extravaganza will feature a dynamic program, including an African drumming performance by Nun Fula, a presentation on the history of recreation and its impact on the Black community in Chatham County by Stephanie Sykes Davis, and a captivating hand and line dance performance by Stephanie Sykes Davis and Tonya Sherman. Dr. Harmon will also share a powerful poem/storytelling session. The event will begin with a welcome from Jasmine Sanders, Executive Director of HR, on behalf of Dr. Foley, and remarks by Dr. Harmon. Kenzie Gadsden and Josiah Williams will conduct a roll call of organizations.
