Savannah Technical College Celebrates Success of 5th Annual Child Abuse and Autism Awareness Walk

(SAVANNAH, Ga.) Savannah Technical College (Savannah Tech) students recently hosted the 5th Annual Child Abuse and Autism Awareness Fun-Day & Walk at the college’s main campus. Organized by the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Club, the event brought the community together to recognize National Child Abuse Prevention Month and Autism Acceptance Month.

The morning was defined by a “sea of blue,” as participants embraced the theme “Be a Child’s Sunshine” by wearing the official color representing both child abuse prevention and autism support. The event kicked off with a community vendor fair followed by an opening ceremony featuring remarks from ECCE Program Chair Mrs. Grant and a ceremonial ribbon cutting.

“Step Out & Make a Difference” served as the rallying cry for the day, connecting local families with vital educational resources. Along the walk route, participants engaged with educational facts regarding child abuse prevention and autism, while vendors distributed resources focused on positive parenting.

The event also highlighted the hands-on nature of technical education as Savannah Tech Barbering and Cosmetology students were on-site providing free haircuts to attendees, putting their professional skills into action to serve the community. Joining the student organizers were several key community partners, including the Live Oak Public Library, Healthy Savannah, Ambucs, and the Coastal GA Coalition for Children.
