International Students

Savannah Technical College welcomes students from around the world. International applicants must complete additional admissions requirements and provide documentation to study in the United States.

Application Process

Applicants must:

  • Submit the Savannah Technical College Application for Admission
  • Pay the $25 application fee
  • Submit official transcripts with English translation if applicable
  • Provide an official evaluation of foreign transcripts from a NACES-accredited evaluator (WES recommended)
  • Submit TOEFL or IELTS scores if English is not the first language
  • Provide a copy of a valid passport (and I-94 if currently in the U.S.)
  • Submit financial certification documentation

Financial Capacity

International students must demonstrate financial ability to cover educational and living expenses.

  • Minimum required amount: $38,281
  • Additional $2,500 per dependent

Financial documents must:

  • Be original documents sent directly to the International Student Office
  • Show a minimum balance of $38,281
  • Include the account holder’s name
  • Include sponsorship documentation if applicable
  • Show the unit of currency
  • Be dated within three (3) months
  • Be issued by the bank (not self-generated)
  • Be on official bank letterhead or certified by a bank official
  • Be translated into English if necessary

Multiple documents may be combined to meet the requirement.

After Acceptance

  • Financial documents are reviewed
  • A Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20) is issued if requirements are met
  • Students must pay the I-901 SEVIS fee
  • Students must schedule a visa appointment at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate

Visa Process

Students must apply for an F-1 student visa.

During the visa process, applicants must demonstrate:

  • Academic readiness
  • Financial support
  • Intent to return to their home country after completing studies

Entering the United States

Students may enter the United States up to 30 days before the program start date listed on the I-20.

All immigration documents must be carried when traveling and presented at the port of entry.

Important Information

If your current non-immigrant status permits post-secondary study (such as H1B or J1), you may begin classes while your I-539 application is being processed by USCIS.

Certain statuses (such as B1/B2) are not permitted to begin classes until the change of status is approved.

If your B1/B2 status will expire more than 30 days before the program start date, you may need to submit an additional I-539 form to extend your status. It is recommended to consult with an immigration attorney in this case.

Notes

Students should not enter the U.S. on a tourist visa (B1/B2) if they intend to enroll as a full-time student.

Students must attend the institution listed on their I-20 and maintain proper immigration status.
