Savannah Technical College is committed to ensuring that all students have access to a quality education. The Office of Special Populations and Disability Services provides resources, accommodations, and support to help students succeed academically and personally.
Disability Services
Academic Accommodations & Accessibility
Disability Services assists students who may need academic accommodations due to a documented disability.
Students with a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities may be eligible for services
Examples of Disabilities
- Hearing, visual, or mobility impairments
- Learning disabilities
- Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD/ADHD)
- Psychological disorders
- Acquired brain injuries
- Other health impairments

The Office of Special Populations coordinates services that promote equity, enhance the educational experience, and support student success and self-sufficiency.

- Lending Library Form (books, supplies, loaner laptops)
- Student Care Closet (free household, personal items, and school supplies)
- Public Benefits Screening
- Support for overcoming barriers to employment

Who Qualifies as a Special Populations Student?
- Individuals from an economically disadvantaged family, including low-income youth or adults and/or
- Individuals who receive TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) and/or
- Recipients of the Federal Pell Grant.
Examples: Male nurse; Female welder
A youth who is in, or who has aged out of, the foster care system
An individual who is currently experiencing homelessness or unstable residence; described in section 725 of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act (42 U.S.C. 11434a);
Student with a parent who – (i) is a member of the armed forces (as such term is defined in section 101 (a)(4) of title 10, United States Code); and (ii) is on active duty (as such term is defined in section 101(d)(1) of such title

Savannah Technical College partners with Step Up Savannah to help students access financial and public benefit programs that support educational success.
Available Programs
SNAP (Food Assistance)
Helps stretch your food budget with monthly benefits via an EBT card
Medicaid / PeachCare
Low- to no-cost healthcare coverage
CAPS (Childcare Assistance)
Helps cover childcare costs while working or attending school
TANF (Temporary Assistance)
Provides short-term financial support for families in need
Get Help with Applications
The SNAP/Public Benefits Specialist can:
- Help determine eligibility
- Assist with applications
- Provide guidance through the process
- Connect directly with DFCS
Note: Assistance is not available for Women, Infants, and Children Nutrition Program (WIC). Please contact your local County Health Office and Coastal Health District of Georgia..
