Refunds and Dispersements

It is important that students read and understand all refund and disbursement policies before dropping or adding classes, withdrawing from the college, and planning or budgeting financial aid disbursements and refunds.

Savannah Technical College Refund Policy

Once registered for classes, students are responsible for all tuition and fee charges.

Savannah Technical College has a “No Harm No Foul” policy that allows a 100% refund of all tuition and fees, excluding the application fee, if the student formally withdraws prior to the sixth calendar day of the semester or term.

Students are not entitled to a refund if they withdraw after the sixth calendar day of the semester or term.

Savannah Technical College will refund any unearned Federal and State financial aid in accordance with the Department of Education’s federally mandated fair and equitable refund policy for students receiving Title IV assistance.

Important Note:

A student suspended for attendance, academic or other disciplinary reasons will not be eligible for a refund or any portion of any paid tuition and fees.

Additional Refund Policies

Federal Return of the Title IV Refund Aid Policy

Title IV Financial Aid – Federal Pell Grant, FSEOG, and Direct Loans*

If you withdraw from all classes in a semester/term, Federal regulations require that Savannah Tech calculate the amount of “earned” and “unearned” financial aid for the semester/term. The amount of Title IV aid earned is first used to pay the tuition, fees, and Campus Shop charges deferred to your student aid account. If any funds remain after deducting 100% of tuition and fee charges, you will receive the balance. If the amount of Title IV aid earned is not sufficient to cover the tuition, fee, and Campus Shop charges, you will be responsible for paying the balance due.

The “earned” percentage is determined by dividing the number of calendar days in the semester/term up through the date of withdrawal divided by the number of calendar days in the semester/term. If you complete 60% or more of the semester, you earn 100% of the financial aid for that period. If you withdraw before completing 60%, the amount of aid “unearned” is returned to the Department of Education.

*Effective Fall 2014, Savannah Technical College will no longer offer Federal Direct Stafford Loans.

Campus Shop Refund Policy

College ID badge is required to purchase or return textbooks or merchandise.

All Financial Aid purchases/refunds/exchanges must be made during the open Financial Aid period at the beginning of the semester. Savannah Technical College allows Pell Grant eligible students with excess financial aid to purchase books and supplies in the Campus shop the first day of class through the 10th day of the term.

  1. Refunds will be made on required or optional textbooks ONLY if (a) scheduled classes are cancelled by the College or (b) the student withdraws from the course. Student must provide evidence of withdrawal from the course, the original receipt, and materials in original condition within the first 12 days of class. Refunds will not be honored for students who withdraw late in the semester.
  2. Original receipt is required for all refunds or exchanges on unopened/original condition textbooks. Exchanges or returns will not be allowed for books when the shrink wrap has been removed or disks, access codes, etc. have been opened. Allow 4-6 weeks for refund processing with a check purchase.
  3. Refunds will not be made on supplies, general merchandise, backpacks, clothing or candy/snacks/drinks.
  4. Rented textbooks must be returned no later than the last day of the term to avoid non-return charges.

Excess Financial Aid Refunds

If the total amount of financial aid received exceeds tuition, mandatory fees, and Campus Shop deferred charges for the semester, students may receive an excess financial aid refund.

Savannah Technical College utilizes BankMobile Disbursements, powered by BMTX, Inc., to deliver excess financial aid refunds, loans, grants, and refunds from dropped classes.

Visit the BankMobile Disbursements website for additional information.

Refund Processing Timeline

  • Excess financial aid refunds are typically issued approximately four (4) weeks after the start of the semester.
  • Refunds continue throughout the semester as funding is received from the Department of Education and Georgia Student Finance Commission.

Savannah Technical College allows students to receive a 100% refund of tuition and fees, excluding the application fee, when courses are dropped by the end of the fifth instructional day of the semester or term.

After the drop/add period and once attendance and enrollment are confirmed, funding is electronically transferred to Savannah Technical College and applied to eligible student accounts.

Federal regulations allow the college fourteen (14) calendar days to issue or mail excess financial aid refunds after funds are applied.

Books & Supplies

Students eligible for a Federal Pell Grant that creates a Title IV credit balance on their student account may receive a school credit to purchase books and supplies through the Savannah Technical College Campus Shop during the first two weeks of the semester.

Any remaining Title IV credit balance after bookstore purchases will be refunded to the student.
