Stephen Hartley: Historic Preservation Department Head

Savannah Technical College’s Historic Preservation Department Head Stephen Hartley has been elected to the boards of directors for the American Glass Guild and is now a member of the ICTP, International College of Traditional Practitioners.

“It’s an honor to be selected as a board member of the American Glass Guild, as well as a member of the International College of Traditional Practitioners,” said Hartley. “Both organizations represent the highest standards of commitment to preserving our past as well as sustaining our future by focusing on the reintroduction of traditional building crafts of the past that we so venerate today.”

The American Glass Guild is a nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging and promoting the creation, conservation and history of stained, leaded and decorative glass within the United States. Their focus is on the role of the artist in creating and repairing pieces.

As a board member for the American Glass Guild, Hartley will serve on the educational committee, organizing workshops and learning opportunities for new and existing members.

The International College of Traditional Practitioners or ICTP is a subdivision of The International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture & Urbanism, INTBAU. It is an international educational charity, which works under the Patronage of HRH The Prince of Wales to promote traditional architecture, urbanism and crafts. The central office of the organization is based in London, however it is a world-wide organization dedicated to the support of traditional building, the maintenance of local character and the creation of better places to live.

The ICTP is a premier organization for architects, designers and craft persons throughout the world that is dedicated to building structures, neighborhoods, and indeed entire cities in a traditional, sustainable form. Hartley was elected by a blind based review process and will be visiting the London office this month to discuss his and Savannah Technical College’s potential roles within the organization as a part of his practical work for his doctorate in Conservation Studies at the University of York.
