Savannah is a revolutionary town plan dating back to 1733 and its beauty is so profound that it stopped even General William Tecumseh Sherman in his tracks. It is Georgia’s first city and one of dynamic and creative economics in the southeast. Savannah has a history of technological innovation, the first cotton gin and the first steamship that crossed the ocean. Savannah is also headquarters to a host of technology-related business, everything from giant Gulfstream Aerospace to smaller graphic design and software development pioneers. USA Weekend Magazine declared Savannah one of the “top 10 Most Beautiful Places in America.” The New York Times named Savannah one of the “World’s Top Ten Trendy Travel Hot Spots” Johnny Mercer, of “Moon River” fame, was a native and is buried at Bonaventure Cemetery surrounded by his lyrics engraved in stone. - Campus Activities/Student Organizations – Each campus location is the center of various social, academic, and cultural related activities for students. Student Organizations are formed to encourage student participation and engagement.
- Art & Culture– Savannah offers a variety of amusements for students including recreational facilities, cinemas, theaters, and other cultural events. From traditional pottery classes to urban poetry performances, the City encourages you to explore its full range of offerings. In Savannah, there is a world renowned art college, Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). SCAD has several galleries, theaters, museums throughout the historical downtown area. The city of Savannah offer a variety of free concerts and events and some that charge only a minimal entry fee.
- Festivals –Each year, the Savannah Department of Cultural Affairs support and produce a number of major festivals, most of which are free and open to the public. Festivals that are founded by the Cultural Affairs Department A include:
- Black Heritage Festival in February
- Savannah Music Festival in March
- Savannah Jazz Festival in September
- Fiesta Latina in October
- Savannah Film Festival in October
- Savannah Children’s Book Festival in November
