Johnson selected as High School Coordinator

Shatealy JohnsonSAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah Technical College has selected Shatealy Sims Johnson as its High School Coordinator. She assists state, secondary, and post-secondary instructional leadership in the planning and development of career programs of study, including dual enrollment opportunities to high school students that lead to either an industry recognized credential, post-secondary certificate of credit, diploma or associate’s degree. She will serve as the primary point of contact for and will collaborate with high school administrators, counselors and staff to promote career and technical education and dual enrollment between high schools and the College.

Previously, Johnson worked at Savannah State University as a loan default manager and as an admissions specialist. She has additional experience in education as a teacher with the Savannah Chatham County Public School System and St. Paul Academy.

She has a Master of Education from Georgia Southern University (2018) and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications with an English minor from Savannah State University (2002). Johnson currently serves as the school council president for Woodville-Tompkins High School and is very active in the community. She is also a member of the Nu Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.  Johnson is married and is the proud mother of one son who is a graduating high school senior.

The Dual Enrollment program allows high school students to take academic degree level core courses that will transfer to any TCSG or USG institution. Students may take both diploma level and/or occupational courses. Some students may choose to enroll fully into a degree, diploma, or technical certificate of credit program, or they may choose to just take a few courses. Hours taken through the Dual Enrollment program will not count towards a student’s HOPE Grant or Scholarship maximum credit hours. Courses are taught on the college campus, high school campus, online, hybrid, and via distance education.

Mountainfilm on Tour Savannah and Georgia Film Academy Announce Mentorship Program for SCCPSS students

SAVANNAH, Ga. —Mountainfilm on Tour Savannah, in partnership with Georgia Film Academy at Savannah Technical College, recently selected five students from the Savannah Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS) to participate in the Mountainfilm on Tour Savannah/Georgia Film Academy Mentorship Program. SCCPSS staff and teachers recommended these students based on their award-winning film work. The students are: Daniel Dos Santos, Groves High School; Yan Luis Castillo, Johnson High School; Malik Wood, Savannah Arts Academy; Ian Breen, Savannah Arts Academy; and Wyatt Oswald, Garrison School of Performing Arts.

The Mountainfilm on Tour Savannah/Georgia Film Academy Mentorship Program pairs five public school students from SCCPSS with a current Georgia Film Academy student for a three-month mentorship program. The program is set to begin in the spring of 2019. The Georgia Film Academy program at Savannah Technical College is the perfect pathway for students to develop careers in the film industry. Through the Mentorship Program, students will learn the terms, etiquette, departments and protocol of working on set or in a production office, and participate in classroom sessions and hands-on activities.

Mountainfilm on Tour Savannah will host the students for a special luncheon with visiting filmmakers during its annual film festival in January. The lunch will be held at The Olde Pink House on Friday, January 25th, and will be attended by directors V. Scott Balcerek and Max Lowe, photographer Cira Crowell and the subject of the film, Mothered by Mountains, Pasang Lhamu Sherpa Akita.

Mountainfilm on Tour Savannah is scheduled for January 23-26, 2018, and will screen over 30 films at Trustees Theater throughout the four-day festival.

Savannah Tech selects Donald as Admissions Director

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah Technical College has selected Tiffany Donald as its Admissions Director. She is responsible for planning and managing admissions activities of new and re-entering students. She manages the financial/budget operation of the department, monitors activities of personnel, develops a comprehensive recruitment plan and directs processing of student applications for acceptance.

Prior to coming to Savannah Tech, Donald was Associate Director of Admissions at Savannah State University and Associate Director of Undergraduate Recruitment at Armstrong State University. She has more than 15 years of experience working in higher education for admissions, recruitment and enrollment.

Donald served as Online Program Recruitment Coordinator for Georgia Southern University, Enrollment Counselor for University of Phoenix, Field Representative for Walden University and coordinator for donor relations and annual fund for Savannah State University.

Donald has a Master of Arts in Religion with a concentration in leadership from Liberty University (2013), a Master of Education with a specialization in curriculum and instruction from University of Phoenix (2008), and a Bachelor of Liberal Arts double major in sociology and African American studies (2002). She is also a Registered Enrollment Professional certified by the Georgia Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admission Officers. She is the Mentorship Coordinator for the Southern Association for College Admission Counseling (SACAC) and has served on the SACAC scholarship review committee and as a conference session co-presenter.

Donald is a native of Savannah where she was educated in the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System. When away from STC, Donald is an active mother and godmother. She is a member of several national and international civic and professional organizations where she dedicates her time to service. She is a member of Happy Home Missionary Baptist Church where she serves in the Children Church Ministry and is an accomplished vocalist and songwriter.
