Savannah Technical College wins regional CASE awards

HERO cover art 2015

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Savannah Technical College was honored with two regional awards by CASE District III at its annual conference in Nashville, Tenn.

STC won an award of excellence for a sub-unit campaign, “Savannah Technical College HERO Campaign (Helping Everyone Realize Opportunity.”) The College also earned special merit for best practices in a fundraising campaign for “Where Excellence Meets Opportunity Image-Building Campaign.”

For the HERO campaign, the College gathered a college-wide team, moved the campaign to a different time of year, developed a brand, built the campaign around personal interaction and offered incentives for donors. A HERO character was created as the mascot for the campaign. The campaign surpassed fundraising and participation goals.

In preparation for the STC’s $10 Million major gifts campaign “Where Excellence Meets Opportunity,” the College raised awareness with an in-kind image-building campaign, reaching out to media partners to ask them to support the campaign with matched advertising. These proposals aimed at image building reinforced key campaign messages of excellence and opportunity.

CASE District III advances and supports educational and professional institutions in the southeastern United States as part of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.

Development Authority of Bryan County Supports Savannah Technical College Precision Manufacturing Expansion

Bryan County Development Authority Check

ELLABELL – The Board of Directors of the Development Authority of Bryan County formally announced the $50,000 pledge toward a Precision Manufacturing expansion at Savannah Technical College at its February 17 meeting. The five-year commitment of $10,000 annually supports the College’s $10 Million major gifts campaign announced last year.

“This is an important commitment for us,” said Board Chairman Derrick Smith. “Manufacturing and distribution continue to grow in the County, and we recognize the importance of providing the skilled workforce our existing industries and the prospective companies looking to invest in Bryan County need to thrive.”

Bryan County is home to a diverse group of industries, including Daniel Defense, Orafol, West Penn Testing Group, Caesarstone, Savannah Global Solutions, Oneida, Blue Bell Ice Cream and CZM Foundation Equipment.

“We thank the leadership in Bryan County for their commitment to our expansion efforts,” says College President Dr. Kathy Love. “We are proud of the strong support we have received from our service area development authorities. They truly understand the importance of having a skilled workforce as we work to bring new industry to and supporting existing industry in our communities.”

Savannah Technical College serves Bryan, Chatham, Effingham and Liberty counties. The development authorities in those counties have pledged a total of $453,000 toward expanding precision manufacturing throughout the region. The College is in the second academic year of offering a Precision Manufacturing Associate Degree program and seeks to expand facilities with dedicated lab space at the Savannah Campus, and building expansions at both the Effingham and Liberty Campuses to support a Flex-Tech Lab for precision manufacturing. The labs, designed to be tailored to focus on the exact instructional mix needed to support manufacturing in each community, significantly expand area business and industry access to workforce development and training opportunities.
