SAVANNAH – Savannah Technical College is continuously seeking qualified candidates for general studies adjunct faculty teaching positions. The College will host General Studies Career Fair sessions in December 2013 at the Savannah, Effingham and Liberty Campuses.

   General studies courses include mathematics, English, reading, biology, psychology, sociology, speech, economics, humanities. Part-time positions for adjunct faculty are appointed each semester for day and evening classes.

   Qualifications for teaching include a master’s degree in the field or a master’s degree and 18 graduate credits in the subject to be taught. To be considered for one of the adjunct teaching positions in Spring 2014, please bring resume, cover letter, and unofficial transcript to one of the career fairs.

Gary Strickland Selected as Director of Facilities

SAVANNAH – Savannah Technical College has selected Gary Strickland as its Director of Facilities. Strickland will plan and direct administrative and operations activities for all of the College’s facilities management operations. Prior to this position, Strickland was STC’s Assistant Facilities Director/Project Manager.

He has more than 12 years of experience in the department of facilities and operations at Savannah Tech. Last year he obtained a Building Operator Certification (BOC®) Level 1 Certification through Northwest Energy Efficiency Council, which strengthened his knowledge of best practices concerning optimum energy efficiency and sustainability. He has extensive experience with plumbing, HVAC, general construction and building maintenance.

TCC Completion Ceremony – January 30

Savannah Tech to offer Building Operator Level 1 Certification

Professional Continuing Education program will improve building energy efficiency

SAVANNAH – Savannah Technical College’s Professional Continuing Education will offer a new course, “Building Operator Level 1 Certification” (BOC®) from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., beginning December 19 at the STC Crossroads Campus (190 Crossroads Parkway, Savannah, 31407) and will meet every third week through April 2014.

The BOC® program is a nationally recognized training and certification program for building operators, facility managers and energy partners. It is designed to provide the knowledge and training necessary to improve the energy efficiency of buildings. BOC® operators apply concepts learned in training and implement measures such as large energy conservation projects and indoor air quality improvements. Studies have shown that organizations achieve an average of more than $10,000 in annual savings, when building operators implement the procedures that are taught in the program.

The eight-session course will include energy efficient operation of building HVAC systems, measuring and benchmarking energy performance, efficient lighting fundamentals, HVAC controls fundamentals, indoor environmental quality, common opportunities for low-cost operational improvement and high performance heating, cooling equipment and energy savings through energy recovery.

The course provides training, along with learning guides that enable participants to earn the BOC® Level 1 credential. The cost of the course is $1,499, which includes the textbook, materials and the initial certification exam fee. STC’s Professional Continuing Education (PCE) provides professional short-term job training and community interest classes for the College’s four-county service area and offers many paths to high-wage, high-performance careers. Advanced Manufacturing to be honored at the 10th Annual Opportunity Award Gala on December 6

SAVANNAH – Advanced manufacturing will be honored at the tenth annual Opportunity Award Gala, December 6 at Savannah Technical College in the Eckburg Auditorium (5717 White Bluff Road, 31405).

This year, Savannah Technical College Foundation will honor manufacturers in our community for improving the quality of life throughout the region. Through sustained and thoughtful growth, manufacturing supports a payroll of nearly $700 million in Coastal Georgia and provides opportunities for more than 14,000 employees. Savannah Technical College is proud to salute them.

Held in December of each year, the event honors deserving people in our community for a lifetime of service in creating and enhancing opportunities for others to succeed. These individuals have demonstrated a commitment to creating opportunities for Georgians both locally and at the state level. The event gathers 300 community and civic leaders for a celebratory evening. The evening also showcases the talents of students enrolled in Savannah Technical College’s award-winning Culinary Arts programs. Proceeds go to support the Savannah Technical College Foundation. Savannah Tech’s Bistro Savoir takes pre-orders for second annual Thanksgiving sale

SAVANNAH –Savannah Technical College’s Culinary Institute of Savannah proudly offers Bistro Savoir featuring desserts and artisan breads for Thanksgiving.

Bistro Savoir from the Culinary Institute of Savannah at Savannah Technical College features the finest quality ingredients that are locally sourced, milled and handmade under the direction of Chef Jean Vendeville, world renowned pastry chef and department head for culinary arts at STC.

Online pre-order sales are available through November 21, or when quantities are sold out. Desserts include: cookies (cowboy, peanut butter), pies (pumpkin, pecan, blondie spiced apple), tarte pure caraibe, red velvet cake, tiramisu, raspberry chocolate mousse tart, dark and white chocolate mousse cake and harvest apple cheesecake. Artisan breads will include muffins (pumpkin, raspberry), dinner rolls, San Francisco sourdough bread, tarte flambé, apple fan tan, many seeds German bread, cabernet blue cheese walnut bread, challah and miche (a six-pound savory loaf). Blended butter spreads are also available.

Orders will be available for pickup at the College’s campuses in Savannah, Liberty and Effingham on Tuesday, November 26. For a pick-up schedule, a complete list of items for sale and to place orders, visit www.bistrosavoir.com.

Proceeds from the sale will go toward the purchase of a commercial wood-fired oven that will be used in the College’s baking and pastry program. The previous Bistro Savoir sales have raised more than $7,500 toward this oven, which will be large enough to accommodate seven 16” pizzas at once, but Vendeville plans to use it for baking bread.

Savannah Tech’s baking and pastry program that was developed by the College to teach the art of creating tasty baked goods, pastries, and confections, from traditional bread baking to beautiful showpieces. Students learn a variety of international and classical pastries and desserts using basic and advanced techniques, which meet industry quality standards. More than 70 students are currently enrolled in the baking and pastry program.

The Culinary Institute of Savannah has earned distinction as one of the top four culinary programs in the country according to the American Culinary Federation (ACF). Vendeville has assembled a top-notch team of faculty, who have each earned national ACF certification under his leadership. Savannah Tech Historic Preservation Department Head Elected to the American Glass Guild Board and ICTP member

SAVANNAH – Savannah Technical College’s Historic Preservation Department Head Stephen Hartley has been elected to the boards of directors for the American Glass Guild and is now a member of the ICTP, International College of Traditional Practitioners.

“It’s an honor to be selected as a board member of the American Glass Guild, as well as a member of the International College of Traditional Practitioners,” said Hartley. “Both organizations represent the highest standards of commitment to preserving our past as well as sustaining our future by focusing on the reintroduction of traditional building crafts of the past that we so venerate today.”

The American Glass Guild is a nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging and promoting the creation, conservation and history of stained, leaded and decorative glass within the United States. Their focus is on the role of the artist in creating and repairing pieces.

As a board member for the American Glass Guild, Hartley will serve on the educational committee, organizing workshops and learning opportunities for new and existing members.

The International College of Traditional Practitioners or ICTP is a subdivision of The International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture & Urbanism, INTBAU. It is an international educational charity, which works under the Patronage of HRH The Prince of Wales to promote traditional architecture, urbanism and crafts. The central office of the organization is based in London, however it is a world-wide organization dedicated to the support of traditional building, the maintenance of local character and the creation of better places to live.

The ICTP is a premier organization for architects, designers and craft persons throughout the world that is dedicated to building structures, neighborhoods, and indeed entire cities in a traditional, sustainable form. Hartley was elected by a blind based review process and will be visiting the London office this month to discuss his and Savannah Technical College’s potential roles within the organization as a part of his practical work for his doctorate in Conservation Studies at the University of York.
