Hoyt is chosen as Savannah Technical College’s 2012 GOAL honoree

Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership finalists honored at awards luncheon

SAVANNAH – Kathryn Hoyt, a dental assisting student at Savannah Technical College has been named the college’s honoree of the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) for 2012. Hoyt and the other nominees were recognized at a celebration luncheon today.

     GOAL, a statewide program of the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG), honors excellence in academics and leadership statewide among the state’s technical college students.

     “Technical education provides everyone with the opportunity for a great education by offering the skills and ethical training needed to prepare students to enter a competitive job market,” said Hoyt. “By providing quality, affordable education, the TCSG enhances the lives of its students as well as Georgia’s economy.”

     Hoyt is one of four finalists of the 23 nominated STC students. The other finalists are:

  • · Kristen Galipeault, Dental Hygiene
  • · Christopher McLendon, Automotive Technology
  • · Rami Thompson, Marketing Management

     Hoyt is anticipated to graduate in 2012 with a diploma in dental assisting from Savannah Tech. She works now as a dental assistant with Pediatric Dentistry of Savannah and is a volunteer with the Savannah Volunteer Dental Clinic. She will receive a $500 scholarship and a dedicated parking space for the year and will represent Savannah Technical College at the regional competition to be held February 23, 2012 at the Tifton Campus of Moultrie Technical College.

     All 26 college winners will gather in Atlanta in May for the selection of the 2012 GOAL student to represent the Technical College System of Georgia as a student ambassador.
     The awards luncheon also honored STC’s Rick Perkins Award winner and nominees. Earlier this year, Chef Jean Yves Vendeville, the department head of the Culinary Institute at STC was named the College’s 2012 Instructor of the Year.
