Junior Chefs to compete in fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House®
Savannah Technical College culinary students will be squaring off in teams of three in a head-to-head competition on Thursday, August 27 from 3-7 to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC) in Savannah. The competition, called The Chef of the House Challenge, pits chefs against each other to create a three-course meal featuring an appetizer, entrée and dessert.
Each chef will plan a 3-course meal for 30 people to feature a secret ingredient revealed that day.
They will be cooking for the families served at the Savannah House as well as the Judges of the competition.
The event takes place at the House and the dinner and judging will be at 6 PM.

The students are enrolled this summer in the Baking and Contemporary American Cuisine courses taught by Chef Jean Vendeville, department head and instructor of Culinary Arts. Says Chef, “This competition is for a good cause and it will help prepare our students for the more difficult competitions we will participate in later in the school year.” Vendeville has served as a judge at an earlier competition benefiting the Ronald McDonald House and will judge the students’ work this time around.

The 10-bedroom “Home-away-from home” provides comfort and a place to stay for parents with critically ill or injured children.
The House provides all the comforts of home—beds, showers, laundry room, and a home-cooked meal prepared each night by community volunteers.
The House operates at nearly 100% occupancy, 365 days a year.
It costs RMHC $65 per day to provide its brand of hospitality for each family.
