Savannah Technical College received scholarship funds
from The Grainger Foundation
SAVANNAH –
The Savannah Technical College Foundation received $5000 from The
Grainger Foundation.
Funds will be used for ten $500 scholarships for Industrial Technology students to assist with fees that a number of other grants and/or scholarships can’t cover, like books and equipment.
“Grainger has a strong commitment to technical education across the country,” says Joe Haddad, manager of Grainger’s branch in Savannah.
“We are proud to support Savannah Technical College and its goal to build a skilled local workforce.”
Students will have the opportunity to apply for the scholarships starting in the Fall quarter.
All applicants will be reviewed by a scholarship board for review and selection.
Students will be required to be in good academic standing at the college, have a GPA of at least 2.5 and be majoring in one of the Industrial Technology programs.
“We are appreciative that Grainger has made a financial investment for our students.
The company has been doing business in Savannah for over 20 years and we are pleased that Grainger recognizes the value of technical education.
Grainger hires our graduates and supports continuing education for current employees,” explains Melinda Laager, Executive Director of Savannah Technical College Foundation.
“Because a number of our Industrial Technology students are working and going to school, these scholarships will be a huge asset,” says Gail Eubanks, Interim Vice President of Student Success.
“We see a number of students on a daily basis that would have a completely different outlook with some additional funds, particularly for books and supplies.
We can now offer a real solution.”
Grainger has been serving Georgia businesses for over 75 year, providing supplies and equipment needed to keep their facilities running.
The company has 14 locations across the state, including its Savannah location.
Illinois-based W.W. Grainger, Inc (NYSE:GWW), with 2008 sales of $6.9 billion, is the leading brad line supplier of facilities maintenance products serving businesses and institutions in the United States, Canada, Mexico, China and Panama.
Through a highly integrated network including more than 600 branches, 18 distribution centers and multiple websites, Grainger’s employees help customers get the job done.
