Since its establishment in 2009, The Savannah Technical College Peace Officer Academy has held nine graduation ceremonies with 98% of our students hired by Georgia law enforcement agencies.
The Peace Officer Academy program utilizes classroom instruction including criminal justice theory and the prevailing principles of modern law enforcement, as well as practical application of pertinent enforcement skills. The college coursework contains the entire Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Basic Law Enforcement Training Course so that successful completion of the program will qualify the student to be a state-certified peace officer.
Classes are held for 18 weeks. Upon completion of the Academy, students will have earned a total of 700 P.O.S.T. course hours and 42 college credit hours. The Academy coursework includes Firearms, Physical and Defensive Training, Emergency Vehicle Operation Training, K-9 Orientation, Radar, First Aid and CPR and Organized Crime Investigation as part of the hands-on curriculum.
 
Academy class hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. and Friday, 7:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m.

A separate, online, P.O.S.T. application is required in addition to the Savannah Technical College Admissions Application.

You must also complete a COMPASS test with minimum scores of 70 in Reading, 32 in Writing and 26 in Math. If you have a Bachelor's degree, you do not need to take the COMPASS test.

The P.O.S.T. application requires a Background Investigation and Fingerprinting in addition to other forms which the applicant must obtain for the application. The application process may take up to one month to complete.
