If you have not used your VA Education benefits before, the Department of Veteran Affairs has provided a useful tool to help get you on the right track. It is called the “Road Map for Success”. This tool is designed to help you determine what benefit is best for you. It also provides information to assistance you on how to apply.

Once you have selected Savannah Technical College as your school of attendance (step 3), follow these recommended step:

 

Step 1: Apply to Savannah Technical College and register for classes

 

Complete that admissions or readmissions process recommended by Savannah Technical College under “ How to Apply ”.

 

Step 2: Contact the VA School Certifying Official for orientation

                        Orientation information includes:

·          Collection of documents for your file

o     A copy of your Benefits Applications or
 
§   Vocational Rehabilitation (chapter 31)  need 28-1905  from the VA outpatient clinic
 
§   New Applicants     New Applicants 22-1990 or 22-5490 (chapter 35)

§   Transfer Students 22-1995 or 22-5495 (chapter 35)

o     Certificate of Eligibility, and

o    Current Class Schedule

·          Class schedule policy

o    Program Evaluation

o    Transfer Credit Evaluation

·          What VA will and will not pay for

·          How you will be paid

·          How VA will pay Savannah Technical College

·          Student Change policy

·           Termination policy

 

        Step 3: Pay for your courses by published deadlines

  Currently, the only VA benefits that are designed to pay the tuition and fee charges directly to the school are the Post 9/11 (chapter 33) or Vocational Rehabilitation (chapter 31).   All other benefits require that you pay tuition and fees either out of pocket or through other federal or state financial aid funding.


If you are utilizing additional financial aid benefits, please contact a financial representative to finalize your award. In some cases, additional information may be required in order to apply funds to your account.


We recommend that students visit with the business office to confirm that all institutional charges have been paid by the scheduled deadlines or after any adjustments have been made to the term schedule.

   

 

     If you are a current student continuing to receive veteran benefits follow these steps:

                        Step 1: Provide the SCO a copy of your schedule

Savannah Technical College requires, for each term that you are enrolled, that you notify the School Certifying Official (SCO) of the classes for which you are registered. To ensure payment is received in a timely manner, we recommend that you participate in early registration and contact the VA certifying official.  This is to assure that you are registering for the appropriate classes, within your program of study, that follow the guidelines of VA regulations.
