How to apply to Gateway to College
5-Step Application Process (REVISED)

Step 1: Attend an Information Session

Make sure to reserve a place at an information by calling the Gateway to College information line at (912) 443-5777 or by emailing gateway@savannahtech.edu. You can not just show up at an information session; you must reserve a place.

At the information session, you will:
  • Take a reading level test
  • Receive detailed information on the Gateway to College program, and the expectations and benefits of the program
  • Have a chance to ask questions about the program
  • Allow us to have a chance to meet you and learn why you are interested in this program
  • Receive a Gateway to College application packet. The completed application (this includes your application packet, your essays, and your official transcripts) must be in the Gateway office within 14 days of your attendance at an information session date. No applications will be accepted after the 14-day grace period.

Step 3: Attend the Two-Day Evaluation Session

Each session will be about 2 hours long.  During the session, you will have the opportunity to show us that you have the reading, writing, and math skills necessary to achieve success in an academic environment. The Evaluation Sessions will require 100% attendance and completion of in-class and homework assignments. You must be on time to each Evaluation session.

You must be referred to the Evaluation Sessions from an information session. You can not attend the Evaluation without attending an information session first.

Step 4: Participate in an Individual Interview

At the information session, in addition to the Evaluation Sessions, you will also be scheduled for an Individual Interview.  Your interview will be one-on-one with a Gateway to College staff member, and will allow you to discuss any questions you have about the program. This is our chance to get to know you in an individual setting and learn more about your strengths and your motivation.

Step 5: Participate in  Orientation
Once students have been admitted into the program, they must attend a mandatory orientation. Students who fail to attend this orientation, will  be put on a waiting list for the next term. During orientation students will be introduced to their instructors and to other persons here at STC. Students will also take a tour of the campus, get their IDs made, take the college placement exam, and register for classes.

Students must attend the orientation.  No students can begin classes without attending orientation.
