How do I apply for financial aid?

Step One:
Students must complete the U. S. Department of Educaiton Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form each year to determine eligibility for Federal Student Aid.
The FAFSA will also be used to determine your eligibility for all Georgia State Grant and Scholarship funding.

Step Two:
The U.S. Department of Education FAFSA processing center will send you a Student Aid Report (SAR) with the results of your FAFSA. Upon receipt, you should carefully review the SAR to verify the accuracy of the submitted information.
  • If the FAFSA form is completed online and you included your email address, the SAR information will be emailed to you within 3-5 business days. If you did not include an email address, the SAR will mailed to the address provided on the FAFSA form about two weeks after submitting the online FAFSA.
  • If a paper FAFSA form is completed and mailed, you should receive a SAR from the federal processing center in about four to six weeks.
Step Three:
If your FAFSA is selected for verification or if additional documentation is required to determine your eligibility for Federal and State aid, the financial aid office will send an email or letter to you requesting the additional information needed to complete the determination of your eligibility for aid.

If your FAFSA is selected for verification, you will be required to complete a Verification Worksheet and submit it with a signed copy of your prior year's tax return (if you filed), as well as your parent's signed return, if you are a dependent student, or your spouse's signed return, if you are married. Additional documentation may be required in some cases.

Step Four:

Once the Financial Aid Office has received your FAFSA results and any additional documentation that may be required, your financial aid file will be reviewed and your eligibility for Federal and State aid determined. Click here to learn more about how your aid will be determined.

Once your eligibility is determined, you will receive an Award Notification email at your Savannah Tech email address directing you to your Banner Web account to review your award. Click here to learn more about the financial aid process.

It is important to note that students who want to apply for Federal Direct Loans must complete and submit a Direct Loan Request Form to the Financial Aid Office. In addition, you will need to complete the U.S. Department of Education online Entrance Counseling and an Electronic Master Promissory Note. To learn more, visit our Direct Loan webpage.
Students who are enrolled in non-Title IV eligible programs will still be considered for, and if eligible, awarded Georgia State Grant and Scholarship funding.
