REGISTRATION CHECK LIST

 

Welcome to Savannah Technical College’s Commercial Truck Driving Program!   Below you will find a list of important information you will need in order to register for the CDL course.   Registration for CDL will be held Wednesday, June 24, 2009 from 9:00am to 12:00pm and again on Thursday, June 25, 2009 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on the EFFINGHAM CAMPUS!   Acceptance into the program is based on a first-come, first-serve basis.   The first twenty applicants for the day class and the first twenty applicants for the night class who have ALL paperwork and financial aid completed will hold a spot in the program.  

You will need to have the following completed BEFORE registration:

1.        ___ ENROLLMENT APPLICATION:   This is to be filled out completely.   Please note if you list other colleges that you have attended you will be required to have transcripts prior to registration.   After completing your application, you will need to pay the $15.00 application fee at the Campus Shop.   This is a one-time, non refundable fee.   If you have previously attended Savannah Technical College this fee is not required however you will need to turn in an application for readmission.

2.       ___ FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION:   Before filling out the application for financial aid you will need to apply for a pin number at the pin website located at www.pin.ed.gov this is required to electronically sign your financial aid application. Once you have acquired a pin number you can fill out your financial aid application at www.fafsa.ed.gov .   Due to the fact that the Commercial Truck Driving program is a certificate program, you do not have to provide income information, you can simply fill in the income spaces with zeros.   Be aware this should be done at least 1 to 2 weeks prior to registration.   If you are a male, born after 1960 and didn’t register with Selective Service you may not be eligible for the HOPE grant.   If you have not been a resident of Georgia for at least one year, you may not be eligible.   Please contact our office if you have question in regards to financial aid eligibility guidelines.  

3.       ___ COMPASS TEST:   Schedule a COMPASS Placement Test.   This is not a pass or fail test.   This computerized test evaluates your skills in reading, writing, math, and is required by the college before you can register for classes.   This test takes approximately 2 hours to complete, however you are not timed and can take as long as is necessary.   The COMPASS test is only given by scheduling an appointment with the front office.   This test can be taken at any of our campuses.

4.       ___ OBTAIN A COPY OF YOUR 7 YEAR MVR:   Go to your local Department of Driver Services Office and request a copy of your 7 year driving history.   This can be obtained here in Effingham next door at the DDS, at the DDS on Eisenhower, or at the DDS on Airport Road in Hinesville.   The cost for the MVR is $8.00.

5.       ___ OBTAIN A DOT DRUG SCREEN AND DOT PHYSICAL:   Before registering for the Commercial Driving Program you must have a DOT Drug Screen and Physical.   The only approved clinic for this process is HEALTH AWARENESS ENTERPRISES, 626 HWY 80 WEST, GARDEN CITY.   912-964-1531.   Please be aware if you have a positive results come back on a drug screen you will not be allowed to register for our program for a minimum of one year.   This program does conduct random drug testing during the program.

You will need to bring the MVR, the DOT Physical, and proof of the DOT Drug Screen with you to registration.

PREVIOUS CDL STUDENTS ONLY :   You will need to have your learner’s permit with Air Brakes and half the cost of your tuition on the day of registration!   There will be NO EXCEPTIONS!!
