The Cosmetology program is a cohort program with new cohorts beginning every Fall Quarter and every Spring Quarter. A day program and an evening program are offered.  Because it is a competitive admissions program, it is highly recommended that students successfully complete core classes or be nearing completion of core classes before applying for entrance into the Cosmetology program via the DATA FORM (see Section Below). The related core classes are: Math 1012, English 1010, SCT 100 (Introduction to Microcomputers) and EMP 1000 (Employability).

Nail Technology is a certificate program and does not require any core classes. However, since the curriculum directly comes from the Cosmetology program, admission requirements to the program are the same. Testing may determine that the student will need to take learning support classes prior to beginning the Nail Technology program.

DATA FORMS

For consideration into the program, a Data Form must be completed.  The Data Form is a personal information packet that shows the prospective Cosmetology student’s educational background, record of public service, self expression of the student, etc. A Selection Committee scores the Data Forms and chooses the students for the upcoming cohort.

Data Forms are available in the office of Ms. June Mincey, Assistant to Michael Patterson, Dean of Industrial and Public Service programs, Office 101A in the Industrial Technology Building. They must be completed while the student is in the office. Data forms are due at the beginning of the quarter before the Fall Quarter or Spring Quarter that the student wishes to begin the Cosmetology program. The table below reflects data form deadlines. No exceptions will be made.

The out-of-pocket expense for the first quarter is approximately $800.00- $1000.00 not including tuition.

Once accepted into the Cosmetology program, students will receive a list of department rules/policies. Failure to follow department rules may result in dismissal from the Cosmetology program.

When a student is accepted into the Cosmetology program, it will take one year to complete the program and receive a diploma (provided that all core classes have been successfully completed). Classes are set up on collegiate scheduling and times may vary from quarter to quarter; however, the program is a full-time commitment.

RE-SUBMIT DATA FORMS

If a student is notified that they were not accepted for that specific quarter, it is the student’s responsibility to go back to Ms. Mincey’s office in Room 101A  to fill out an updated Data Form for consideration into the next cohort. Ms. Mincey may be reached at 912.443.5723.
