IMPORTANT CHANGES!!

Effective Fall Quarter 2008

Attention AOT/BOT/MKO Students:

You are currently listed as majoring in the Administrative Office Technology (AOT) Degree program, the Business Office Technology (BOT) Diploma program, or the Medical Office Clerk (MKO) Certificate program at our College. The Technical College System of Georgia has replaced these programs effective this upcoming Fall Quarter at Savannah Technical College. These changes will affect your curriculum, enrollment status, graduation and possibly financial aid.

Please contact the Student Success office (912.443. 5517- Savannah Campus, 912.754.2878 - Effingham Campus, 912.408.3024 ext. 6006 - Liberty Campus) to assist you with updating your record, answering questions related to your financial aid, and determining your plans for Fall Quarter and beyond. It is your responsibility to take these actions after carefully reading the information below:

  1. Administrative Office Technology Degree will be referred to as Business Administrative Technology Degree and Business Office Technology Diploma will be referred to as Business Administrative Technology Diploma. The acronym for both programs is BAT. Medical Office Clerk ( MKO) will change to Medical Office Assistant .

  2. Business Administrative Technology Diploma has two specializations— Business Administrative Assistant and Medical Administrative Assistant. You must select a specialization while updating your record.

  3. Students enrolling in BUS 101 must be able to type 25 wpm with 3 or less errors prior to enrolling in the course; a typing exam will be given on the first day of class and any student not meeting the requirement will need to enroll in BUS 100.

  4. Credit hours were decreased to 95 for the BAT Degree and increased to 74-76 for BAT Diploma. This could have financial implications depending on your situation.

  5. Option: You may complete your current program of study (the AOT program or BOT program or MKO program) under the following conditions:

    • You do not have a break in any quarter of attendance, and …
    • You complete all required courses prior to June 19, 2009, and …
    • You physically meet with your Faculty Advisor in AOT/BOT/MKO to establish a “teach-out plan”.

*Note: This is not normal advisement; you must make an appointment with us (Faculty Advisors) no later than August 27, 2008. These programs will terminate October 1, 2008.

  6. Students enrolling in Business Administrative Technology or updating to Business Administrative Technology or Medical Office Assistant will follow a new curriculum. The curriculum is posted under Academic Programs on the Website under the new names.

I wish you much success in the revised Business Administrative Technology programs and Medical Office Assistant program! . We feel that these new programs will enhance your skills and your employability .

For advisement or concerns about these changes, please contact the BAT department. You can reach me via email at jriley@savannahtech.edu or you can reach another faculty advisor, Ms. Calloway at MCalloway@savannahtech.edu . Either of us are happy to meet with you now to ensure you make successful plans concerning these changes. Again, I remind you to please review this letter in detail and take the required actions.

Sincerely,
