INTRODUCTION
 
This guide is provided as a quick reference for use in the event of an emergency.
  
It is not intended to replace comprehensive plans or procedures for emergency response. Use this quick reference for notification of crisis response personnel. If at any time you determine the situation to be critical, dial (9) 911 for EMS / LOCAL POLICE DEPARTMENT or 912-356-2300 and speak with a College Public Safety Officer.
  
 
CIVIL DISTURBANCE
  
Immediately notifiy the Public Safety Office by dialing Phone 912-356-2300, use of the nearest Emergency Phone, or notify the front desk at:
a. 912-443-5700 (Savannah Campus)
b. 912-408-6000 (Liberty Campus)
c. 912-443-3013 (Crossroads Campus)
d. 912-754-2880 (Effingham Campus)
and give the nature and location of the problem.
  
  
VEHICLE ACCIDENT
  
1. Should an accident involving a vehicle(s) occur on campus, please call the Department of Public Safety phone at 912-356-2300, or notify the front desk at: 
a. 912-443-5700 (Savannah Campus)
b. 912-408-6000 (Liberty Campus)
c. 912-443-3013 (Crossroads Campus)
d. 912-754-2880 (Effingham Campus)
and give the nature and location of the accident.
  

2. Advise if there are injuries

3. Advise if there are any vehicles and/or property on fire

4. Advise those involved in the accident to remain at the scene until emergency personnel arrive
  
  
  
If a sick or injured person is in need of assistance:
  
1. Notify the Public Safety Office directly by dialing 912-356-2300, or use the nearest Emergency Phone. Public Safety can also be notified by dialing the front desk at:
a. 912-443-5700 (Savannah Campus)
b. 912-408-6000 (Liberty Campus)
c. 912-443-3013 (Crossroads Campus)
d. 912-754-2880 (Effingham Campus)
and give the nature of the incident and the location.
  
2. The Public Safety Office will, if necessary, notify Emergency Medical Services.
 
3. The Public Safety Office will gather the identification information of the involved
person(s) and notify the involved person's family, if necessary.
 
4. Trained Public Safety personnel, if needed will administer First Aid.
 
5. Injured should not be moved until the've been examined by Emergency Medical Services. The only exception is if remaining in the current location creates a greater threat to health or life.
 
6. Air and Blood-borne Pathogen procedures should be adhered to.
 

7. A Public Safety Officer will complete a detailed Incident / Accident report and submit it to the Director of Public Safety.

 
 
 
If a fire is detected on campus the following steps should be taken immediately:
 
1. Activate the Fire Alarm:  Any employee observing a fire inside a building will immediately pull the nearest fire alarm pull-station.
 
2. Notify Public Safety:  Use the nearest emergency phone, or dial the Public Safety Office (912-356-2300) and report the location of the fire; or, notify the front desk at:
a. 912-443-5700 (Savannah Campus)
b. 912-408-6000 (Liberty Campus)
c. 912-443-3013 (Crossroads Campus)
d. 912-754-2880 (Effingham Campus)
3. Evacuation:  Should an evacuation be required move at least 500 feet from the fire location and do not return until advised to do so by Public Safety.
 
4. Each instructor or department head will insure that all students / employees are accounted for, or notify a Public Safety Officer if anyone is missing.
 
5. Fire Extinguishers:  Fire extinguishers are located throughout each campus building for use by those trained in their use.
 
 
 
Evacuation reoutes are posted in each room and office.
 
TORNADOES
 
The warning signal indicating a tornado has been sighted is a varied high/low tone from the emergency siren.
 
1. Immediately close all windows and doors.
 
2. Move to inner hallways, as close as possible to the center of the building.
 
3. Get in a crouched position wile facing a wall.
 
4. Use coats, jackets, etc as protection for your head.
 
5. Do not leave the building. Visual sighting leaves little time to locate shelter.
 
6. If outside, take cover immediately, preferably in a ditch, or other such low-lying area.
 
7. Remain in shelter until directed by your supervisor or safety personnel to leave.
 
 
In the event of a bomb threat:
 
1. Gather as much information as possible from the caller utilizing the checklist.
 
2. Call the Public Safety Office Phone 912-356-2300, or use the nearest wall mounted Emergency Phone.
(Savannah Campus) Emergency phones are located:
  • by the elevators on the first and second floor of Goodman Hall
  • outside of Room 162 and Room 182 in the business area of the Administration Building
  • the rear exterior wall of the Library
  • on the front wall of Trailer 2. The front desk's extension is 912-443-5700.
(Liberty Campus) The Emergency Phone is located on the exterior wall of the Rene Kemp building. The front desk's extension is 912-408-6000.
