Practical Nursing

Licensed practical nurses (LPNs), under the direction of physicians and registered nurses, care for people who are sick, injured, convalescent, or disabled. Program graduates receive a practical nursing diploma and have the qualifications of an entry-level practical nurse.

Savannah Technical College’s Practical Nursing is a competitive selection program that prepares graduates to give competent nursing care. This is done through a selected number of academic and occupational courses providing a variety of techniques and materials necessary to assist the student in acquiring the needed knowledge and skills to give competent care. A variety of clinical experiences is planned so that theory and practice are integrated under the guidance of the clinical instructor.

Program graduates receive a practical nursing diploma and have the qualifications of an entry-level practical nurse. Satisfactory completion of all program courses may entitle a student to participate in the NCLEX-PN examination and licensure process. Employers will require candidates to be a licensed practical nurse (LPN). The cost of each of the examinations and licensure is not part of the cost of the program and must be paid for by the student/graduate.

Applicants must complete the Health Care Assistant TCC with a Nurse Aide specialization or EMT (Basic) TCC prior to applying. They must have a current Georgia Nurse Aide certification or a National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Certification. Visit this link for additional competitive selection requirements.

Practical Nursing starts in both the Spring and Fall semesters. Visit this page for deadlines/application: Competitive Selection Health Science Programs

It is offered at the Savannah and Liberty campuses.
